Who can apply
PittsburghFashion.com is a team effort of several talented young individuals.
Any professional or student who has a passion for fashion, experience in
journalism, digital photography, modeling, graphic design, advertisement sales,
web design, or ecommerce can enquire about opportunities.
What types of opportunities are available?
Experienced members of the community, can join our “Fashion Advisory Board” or
the “Editorial Board”. Current students can join as an interns or volunteers.
College graduates can join as freelance professionals.
Are the positions paid?
Presently, they are not paid. Pittsburghfashion.com is a startup venture and has
been created by student volunteers. Since it is an online community, join us to
gain exposure, showcase your talents, make valuable contacts in local fashion
industry, and become part of a young innovative team. The opportunities are fun
and creative. There are no office hours. Most of the tasks can be accomplished
online or via email. We meet on a weekly basis at a trendy location in
Pittsburgh, socialize and talk about fashion! In future, we plan to offer
ecommerce and advertising opportunities to local business. Those individuals
interested in ad sales, ecommerce or assisting us in making
Pittsburghfashion.com financially sustainable would be compensated on
commission or fee basis. As PittsburghFashion.com grows, we hope to create more
jobs, freelance and entrepreneurial opportunities for everyone in the team.

1. Fashion Advisory Board

Provide inside information on local fashion trends and contribute to Local
Fashion Trends Newsletters

Source information from other fashion media and supply information on “who,
where and when” of global fashion industry

Advise fashion journalist interns on new fashion trends, business contacts, and
local events

Assist in developing networking opportunities for fashion professionals and
entrepreneurs

Promote fashion awareness and opportunities in the community.
Internships
1. Ecommerce Design and Web Technology
- Using ASP.NET with C#based web-pages and MS SQL 2000, modify and add components to the website such as adding a user driven advertisement placement system with ecommerce transactions
- Must have knowledge of as many widely accepted web technologies such as HTML, XML, Microsoft Technologies (ASP, COM+, IIS, MTS, .Net framework), MS SQL Server 2000, Java, PHP, and ecommerce applications such as Miva Merchant
2. Editor in Chief
- Recruit, and provide guidance to journalism interns and freelance writers and manage their writing assignments.
- Help the writers improve their writing skills, style and fashion vocabulary.
- Generate new article ideas, keep abreast of fashion trends and fashion industry activity in Pittsburgh.
- Copy-edit the articles, proof and approve trends newsletters, and other web content.
- Coordinate with photogragraphers for photographic assignments for the articles.
- Prefer someone with a degree in creative writing/journalism or a graduate student.
- Must demonstrate committment and passion for fashion journalism.
- Performance based compensation may be possible for this position when the website starts generating revenue.
3. Fashion Journalism and Creative Writing
You will be assigned a staff writer online account with privileges to create
your own content and self publish your articles online. All content
will be reviewed and copy-edited by the Editorial Board prior to publication.
- Write articles about fashion trends, beauty and personal care products
- Reviews of fashion businesses, boutiques, salons etc
- Event coverage for fashion shows, nightlife and cultural events
- Previews and press releases for events
- Interview local fashion professionals and fashion entrepreneurs
- Research local shopping tips, deals, sales, promotions in the city
- Note: Creative writing samples required to be considered
4. Digital Fashion Photography

Ability to use a digital SLR or pro-amateur digital camera

Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop or similar digital image editing tools

Glamour photography involving fashion models showcasing local fashion products
and services

Photo coverage of Fashion shows, cultural events, nightlife
- Fashion merchandise catalog photography
- Note: Samples of photographic work required to be considered
5. Multimedia, Graphic Design and Digital Art

Design short animations using Macromedia Flash MX
- Conceptualize visual communications strategy of the website to support business objectives

Occasionally, design print media marketing communications –brochures, posters, and postcards

May be required to edit graphic images to support web content
- Note: Samples of creative design work required to be considered
6. Marketing Research, Advertisement Sales and Event Promotion

Manage and update online directory of local fashion businesses

Conduct market survey, develop relations and develop potential customer list

Create advertising and marketing program

Targeted selling of advertisement space and ecommerce services
Additional Information
Current students are encouraged to consult their school administration or
faculty to obtain academic credit in form of internships or class projects. We
will provide necessary assistance to ensure your work meets the credit
requirements.
